How do you propose to conserve the rain forest?

We’re glad you asked! 15% of all proceeds will be used to purchase rain forest land in Costa Rica for the purpose of conservation. By doing so, we can guarantee these lands will remain undeveloped and allow the incredibly rich biodiversity of this region to flourish.

Why rain forests?

If we want to make strides in slowing climate change, we must protect our rain forests. Rain forests, especially tropical rain forests, are one of Earth’s best defenses against climate change. Not only do they store carbon, they actively remove it from the air. Without this natural superpower, it will be extremely difficult to stop climate change. It is for this reason that we believe it is so important to prevent deforestation of these valuable ecosystems.

How exactly do rain forests help to stabilize the climate?

Rain forests play a critical role in stabilizing the global climate by regulating the Earth's carbon cycle. Trees absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere through the process of photosynthesis, storing the carbon in their trunks, branches, and roots. Rain forests, in particular, are incredibly effective at sequestering carbon, as they have a high density of trees and other vegetation. Additionally, rain forests release water vapor into the atmosphere through a process called transpiration, which helps to regulate temperature and humidity levels. This process contributes to the formation of clouds, which reflect sunlight and cool the planet. Rain forests also act as a sink for greenhouse gases, absorbing and storing carbon dioxide that would otherwise contribute to global warming. The destruction of rain forests, therefore, has a significant impact on the global climate and the health of the planet.

What kind of transcription and captioning services do you offer?

Human-edited Transcription

Transcription is ideal when you want to make your audio content more accessible, expand your reach, or improve your search engine optimization. It is great for podcasts, interviews, lectures, business meetings, et cetera. Available in clean and verbatim formats.

Human-edited Closed captions

Closed captioning matches the transcript frame by frame to the images on a screen. It is ideal for movies, TV shows, video games, or online videos. Available in clean and verbatim formats.

Human-edited Open captions

Open captions are captions that are burned in to your video. In other words, they are shown permanently.

AI Captions

Captions that are generated automatically. Although they are typically much less accurate than human-edited captions, they can be useful for clear, single-speaker dialogue without much technical or specific jargon.

How much does it cost?

Our base rate is $2.25 per video minute for eco verbatim and clean verbatim transcriptions with our standard 96-hour turnaround. This includes high-quality human editing as well as proofreading and review by our QA team.

For detailed info on add-ons and to get an on-the-spot quote for your project, please visit our pricing page.

How do you handle poor-quality audio?

Because our accuracy promises are contingent on customers providing media of “Good” quality, we highly encourage clear and understandable uploads. However, if that is not possible, we will provide the highest possible quality, but the customer acknowledges that the accuracy promise may not be met. If the result does not meet desired standards, you will be offered the option of a refund as detailed here.

Is there a limit to the length of file you can transcribe?

We are able to transcribe very long files (in fact, some of our editors thrive on those challenges!). However, if you need a quick turnaround on a file over an hour long, please reach out to us so we can make sure to meet your needs.

Can I see an example of your captions?

We’re so glad you asked!

  • True verbatim : Includes every utterance. This is recommended for scripted productions, focus groups, and legal statements.

  • Eco verbatim : This format is for when you want true verbatim but don’t want ums, uhs, and stutters. Recommended for unscripted productions.

  • Clean verbatim : Stays true to the speakers’ words but with edits for improved readability. This format is recommended for general media.

What is the difference between open and closed captions?

Open captions are subtitles that are permanently embedded in a video or broadcast, meaning that they cannot be turned off by the viewer.

Closed captions, on the other hand, can be turned on or off by the viewer, and are typically accessed through a menu or button on the playback device.

Closed captions are often used to provide accessibility for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, while open captions are typically used for foreign language translations or to make sure that all viewers can understand dialogue in noisy or difficult-to-hear situations.

Why are human-edited captions better than AI-generated captions?

Human-edited captions are generally considered to be better than AI-generated captions because humans have a better understanding of context, nuances, and cultural references that can affect the accuracy and quality of captions.

While AI-generated captions have improved in recent years, they are still not able to fully capture the complexity of language and can make mistakes, particularly with proper nouns, homophones, and idiomatic expressions. Human editors can also ensure that captions are properly timed and formatted, and can add additional context or notes when necessary.

Overall, while AI-generated captions can be a helpful tool, human-edited captions are generally considered to be more accurate, reliable, and accessible for viewers who rely on captions for understanding..

How do I get captions in a different language?

Below the filename of a file you've uploaded, you can choose what language you want to have captioned.

How do I set different options for different files?

A new order will need to be made for files that need different options.

What is your quality assurance process?

We’ve developed a formula that ensures the highest quality captions. Your video goes through several iterations of editing. First, your video is passed through a speech-to-text AI processor. That gets sent on to our team of professional editors. Once they have completed their draft, the file is sent to the QA team. These are editors that have several hundred hours of editing under their belts.

How are your editors qualified?

Once our editors are onboarded, they go through a set of training steps to ensure consistency with our grammar and style guides, customer instructions, and transcription ability. Workers are also required to sign a confidentiality agreement to protect your information.

What's the difference between the clean and full verbatim options?

We offer three transcription options: True Verbatim, Eco Verbatim, and Clean Verbatim.

  • True verbatim: Includes every utterance. This is recommended for scripted productions, focus groups, and legal statements.

  • Eco verbatim: This format is for when you want true verbatim but don’t want ums, uhs, and stutters. Recommended for unscripted productions.

  • Clean verbatim: Stays true to the speakers’ words but with edits for improved readability. This format is recommended for general media.

Who needs captions?

Though closed captions are required by people who are deaf or hard of hearing, they are also incredibly useful to those who have auditory processing disorders or who are in situations where the audio cannot be heard, such as in noisy environments or quiet places where sound cannot be played.

Closed captions are also useful for people who are learning a new language (including children learning to read), as they can help with language comprehension and vocabulary acquisition.

Overall, closed captions can make video content more accessible and inclusive for a wider audience.

What are the legal requirements for captions?

Legal requirements for closed captioning can vary depending on the country and type of content being produced. In the United States, for example, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requires broadcasters and video programming distributors to provide closed captions for most video content that is broadcast or streamed online. This includes television programming, video recordings, and live events.

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), workplaces are also required to provide captions for their training videos, internal communications, public-facing videos, et cetera.

Overall, it is important to understand the legal requirements for closed captioning in the setting and region where your content will be distributed to ensure compliance with accessibility laws and regulations.

Is there a minimum file size?

Files can be short clips. However, files under 1 minute will be rounded up to 1 minute for billing purposes.
